PERMATApintar School Holiday Camp is a programme that is designed to cater for the
needs of gifted students in Malaysia. It is an enrichment and accelerated programme
adapted from the Summer Camp Programme at the Centre for Talented Youth (CTY) –
John Hopkins University. The camp is founded based on the National Philosophy of
Education that aims to produce individuals who are intellectually, spiritually,
emotionally, physically and socially balanced and harmonic through a holistic manner.
This camp provides an opportunity for the gifted students to develop their potential
which will further lead to lifelong learning. The objectives of this programme are
to:
1. Develop students’ existing talents and abilities.
2. Sharpen students’ potential holistically.
3. Develop students’ skills.
4. Inculcate the value of lifelong learning
The camp is conducted during the school term break which usually falls in November
and December. This 3-week programme is handled by instructors, teaching assistants
and residential assistants who are specially trained by UKM instructors that have
attended training at the Centre for Talented Youth, John Hopkins University. Throughout
the camp, students will be exposed to academic and co-curricular activities that
encompass sports, fine arts as well as spiritual activities and excursions.
Gifted students aged 9 to 15 from diverse races and socio-cultural backgrounds are
selected to participate in this camp; reflecting the concept of One Malaysia as
proposed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak. These students
must have passed the UKM1 and UKM2 screening test. The students will be attending
one of the courses offered and the arrangement of the course is based on:
1. Students’ performance in UKM2
Notes: Students’ performance are evaluated from the aspects of Verbal Comprehension
Index, Perceptual Reasoning Index : Math & Science, and Working & Processing Memory
Index.

2. Age
Note: The course offered is based on its suitability to the age of the students.
3. Number of students in a course
Note: The maximum number for each class is 15 and the number of classes is limited
as there are only 13 courses offered.
Therefore, students are strictly PROHIBITED from switching the courses. The students,
however, are given the opportunity to attend different courses each year.
